A quiet side project and a small place to collect fragments of everyday life in Japan.
PhotoJP is not a studio, agency or commercial portfolio. It is a personal photography journal that grew out of walking around cities in Japan with a small camera and the habit of paying attention to ordinary scenes long after the first impressions fade.
The work leans towards small details – reflections in convenience store windows, platforms before and after peak hours, side streets a few blocks away from busy intersections, and the way light falls on walls, trains and people.
Most images are made with a very simple setup: one compact camera, a single lens and available light. Limiting the tools helps keep the focus on time and place rather than on gear, and makes it easier to work in between everyday routines.
This site is updated slowly and irregularly. New photographs are usually added in small sets grouped around a simple idea – a one–hour walk, a single neighborhood, or a recurring commute at the same time of day.
If you happen to enjoy this kind of quiet, observational photography, feel free to say hello. A short note from someone who recognizes similar scenes is always appreciated.
